The East Brewton City Council passed two new ordinances on Monday and are considering another for their next meeting.
East Brewton Mayor Joey Shell told the council the ordinances are meant to align the city with similar rules in place for other cities.
“The alcoholic beverages ordinance is a mirror of the ordinance in place in Brewton,” Shell said. “We will be in line with other cities with this ordinance as well.”
The ordinance concerning alcohol sales now in place prohibits the sale, serving, buying or consuming alcoholic beverages between the hours of 2 a.m. Sunday to noon Sunday.
The second ordinance passed by the council prohibits camping on city or public property.
Shell said the ordinance would prevent individuals or groups from camping on public property.
“This is for the health, safety and welfare of the public,” Shell said. “We have had some issues, and this ordinance will help with that.”
